How International Students can Apply to FMU

Equating of Foreign Results

Equating foreign academic documents in Uganda is done through the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) for primary and secondary levels, and the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) for post-secondary qualifications. Applicants must submit original, translated academic documents online, provide a copy of their ID, and pay fees (approx. 200,000–250,000 UGX) to verify qualifications against Ugandan standards. Pre-Tertiary (Primary/Secondary): Processed by UNEB, usually through their e-services portal. Post-Secondary (Degrees/Diplomas): Processed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).). Required Documents: Original academic certificates, transcripts, and a copy of a valid ID (passport or national ID). Translation: Documents not in English must be translated and certified by the relevant embassy or authorized institution. Verification: Applicants must request their home country.

Our History

Fins Medical University (FMU) is a private University in Uganda which offers undergraduate level training to healthcare workers from Uganda and neighboring countries. Fins Medical University (FMU) has a long history spanning from 2010 when it started as a Nurses and Midwives Training College for certificate and diploma programs. In 2010, Victor Kalenzi and his wife Philomenah Kalenzi, established Fort Portal International Nursing School (FINS). In May 2018, the institution was granted a university license and thereafter re-branded to Fins Medical University.

It was deliberately decided that Fins Medical University specializes in health sciences training so as to contribute towards addressing the challenge of shortage of critical health professionals especially in Africa.

After closely studying the immense health needs in Africa and the acute shortage of human resource for health not only in Africa but across the world, the founders and management decided to transform the college into a University so as to aid Health Science Research and Innovation, establish new programs as well as expand the scope of coverage in terms of knowledge and skills through degree and other post graduate studies.

Today FMU is the only University in Uganda which is specializing in health sciences education offering exclusively health sciences courses as well as engaging in health research.

Fins Medical University is licensed and regulated by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and all programs offered at FMU are accredited by the NCHE and other regulatory bodies established by the laws of Uganda.

 

FMU offers a wide range of programs at Diploma and Bachelors levels which have attracted students from across the East African region and beyond as well as staff from across the world. It is the University’s deliberate effort to ensure that health education is handled from a global perspective and also that our training needs are focusing on areas which have higher shortages of human resource for health.

This private university is the only one in Uganda that offers medical related courses exclusively.

It admits males and females, both Ugandan citizens and non citizens. The pioneer class of Fins Medical University was admitted in August 2019.
